PSP » Textures

Perhaps you have wondered how designers get the grungy look on pictures, or a pattern of some sort on it? It’s probably a texture. There exist loads of different pre-made textures, and you can make your own.

First, I will use this horse picture. You can do what ever you want with a picture, then put a texture on it, but I’m going to go with the horse picture as it is.

Open it in PSP. Then open a texture, you can find links to where to download them in the links section. I’ll go with this image as texture bellow (found at http://www.hybrid-genesis.net) Textures are just regular pictures, so there is no need for installing, unzipping or any of that. Just store the textures in a folder, and open one in PSP as a regular picture.

Copy the texture (ctrl + A (select all) then ctrl + C (copy)) and paste it to the horse picture (ctrl L (paste as new layer)). Now it covers your horse picture, so open the layer palette (click L on your key board) and reduce the opacity to what you think look good. As you can see, I’ve reduced it to 56.

And the picture looks like this:

Now, you can add a border to the picture, write the name on and so on. My final picture looks like this:

The name is written on a new layer, with the “burn effect” (check the tutorial cool picture effects to see how to make the burn effect). I’ve used a light beige color. The font is Carpenter.
