Paint Shop Pro X » Patterns
Patterns have been quite popular lately, and that's not so strange, as they can be very pretty as backgrounds on layouts. They are easy to use, when you know how to use them. The first thing you need is a pattern. You can find them on many graphic sites, where they can be downloaded.
Downloading
Find a site that shares patterns. I'll download patterns from Shizoo. A pattern can be saved the same way as any picture; right click on it and click "save". It's a good idea to save them all in one folder (name it "patterns" for example), because you can make that folder as a pattern setting in psp later. So I'll save this layer in my "layers" folder. You can actually save any picture, even a horse picture, in that folder for later use as a pattern.
Settings in psp
In the materials-toolbar to the right where all the colors are, you can choose the pattern the same way as a color. I've marked the place to click:

Click it, and a drop down list will show. Choose the dot saying "pattern" (the text shows when you hold the mouse over the dot),

and a pattern will be chosen, it'll show where the solid color used to be. You can change the pattern by clicking on the square with the pattern inside (blue circle), and a box will show. Click on the arrow next to the pattern (red circle), and all patterns you have will show.

Now, it's time to tell psp where to find the patterns you have downloaded. The ones that exists there already, isn't too… nice. So click on the little folder thingy:

And a box will show. The only pattern folder listed is the psp default at this point. Click on "add".

Choose your pattern folder (it's probably in "my documents"), and click "ok". Your pattern folder is now added, and the patterns are ready to use. Later, you can just save new patterns in the same folder, and they will add them selves.
Using patterns
Click on the same dot you did before, so the pattern box shows. Choose the pattern you'd like to use, but clicking in the square with the pattern inside (the blue circle)

The new pattern will show in the square. Now you can use the patter as any other color. I'll fill my picture with it with the flood fill tool, so I can use it on a layout.
