Welcome to Kamikaze's Gimp Tutorials.

This is a tutorial written to show you around the wonderful world of Picture Manipulations in The Gimp, especially for horseland. Not that my tutorials won't work for different themed manipulations but the focus lies on horseland here. But first thing's first.

What is The Gimp?

The Gimp is a photo editing program like Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. The big difference with those is that it is freeware, which means you can get it legally from the internet without paying anything. This means not it is a program like paint, which, and I'm sure most of you know, absolutely useless when it comes to editing pictures for horseland. Gimp is as powerful, can do the same things and has almost as many features as Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. The only problem is that it isn't as user-friendly. It takes time to figure everything out, and it can be quite confusing sometimes. And that is where this tutorials come in handy.

Where Can I Get The Gimp?

The Gimp files can be downloaded from www.gimp.org. However, since it is freeware you can only download the source code here, which isn't handy if you're not an IT-specialist. A handy place to get a program installer is http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net (for Windows) and http://www.gimp.org/macintosh has links to where to get it for your O.S version if you don’t have Windows.

Other tutorials

At http://www.gimp.org some basic tutorials can be found, it is wise to read them once, so you get an idea. Before you skip to the rest of my Gimp Tutorial I advise to read the Basic Settings one as I will be referring constantly to it. The handy hips and tricks tutorial will have additions regularly, and I will refer to this often.

Good luck and have fun!
