Paint Shop Pro v7 » Borders

I'll show you some border effects I often use. I'll use this picture:

Regular black border

Choose the tool in the left menu called "preset shapes" . Open the tool bar (press the letter o on your key board if you don’t have it open) and choose the rectangle and hook "create as vector" and unhook the "antialias" and choose the line width. I mostly use line width 1 on the black border. Like this:

Make sure you have the "stroke color" as black and the "fill color" as empty:

Now, just drag a rectangle on the picture, and adjust it into the edges by dragging and dropping on the little squares:

When you have placed the border where you want, go to the top tool bar and choose "convert to raster layer".

The result is:

Light border

Use the same preset shape as above. I'll use a white color on the border, and line width 5:

Drag it out and place it where you want it as you did with the black border. When you're done, choose "convert to raster layer".

Now, open the layer palette (click l on your key board) and choose "overlay".

The picture will now look like this:

If you want it a bit lighter, you can reduce the opacity a bit:

The result looks like this:

Dark border

You create this border by going thru the same steps as those in the light border section. So choose the preset shapes tool and choose a dark colors. I'll use this one: now, drag and drop the square where you want it, and convert it to a raster layer.

Now, in the layer palette, choose "burn" instead of "overlay". Now again, you can reduce the opacity if it's too sharp:

The result looks like this:

You can add a light/dark border AND a black 1 px border by using both the tutorials.
